Winning the 1996 Gold Spectrum Award for community relations work for a statewide trade association.

Who is your most admired leader and why?
Martin Luther King. He knew the personal risks but sacrificed himself for the greater purpose, the betterment of an entire race.
What is the company you most admire and why?
Meijer Inc. The family has never forgotten what it took to achieve success.
How do you define success?
As a coach, I always tell my players that success is when you can walk off the field or court, look me in the eye and say, "I gave a full, 100 percent effort."
What is your general philosophy on life and work?
Roll up your sleeves and work hard. Life is too short to get hung up on the little stuff.
What are your favorite sports or recreational activities?
Coaching any sport.
What is your favorite movie?
Field of Dreams.
What is your favorite food?
My own, homemade Sicilian steak roll with linguini and tomato sauce.
What is your greatest vice?
Boredom.
What is an interesting "factoid" about yourself?
As a reporter, I interviewed a U.S. president, covered baseball, the NCAA playoffs and wrote an award-winning story about the Ku Klux Klan. |
