Public relations internship, Grand Rapids
We seek an intern with high energy and an ability to coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines. Candidates must have solid writing skills, experience with Microsoft Office software and social media tools. Previous writing experience is helpful. We also value proven organizational skills and high attention to detail. Our interns must be able to present themselves professionally, handle client communications and confidential issues. Public relations, communications, journalism or marketing seniors or recent graduates are preferred. This is a full-time paid internship. We have opportunities every academic term.
Interns may be asked to assist with a variety of client work. The work might include community engagement project activities, such as supporting development, coordination and staffing events, as well as preparation and distribution of documents, research, project assistance, client and vendor coordination and monthly reports.
Internship work might also include media relations support, such as assisting with media mailing lists, media kits, research for organizational backgrounders and industry information and fact sheets; making follow-up calls to reporters/editors. Interns might also assist with conducting informal research projects, including gathering and analyzing information about industries, organizations and current news and trends.
Interns might be involved in client meetings to see how business is conducted. This also gives the intern the chance to think strategically and observe a variety of organizations.
