  JOHN ZIMMERMAN, Vice President
zimmerman@seyferthpr.com

Please give a brief description of your greatest PR or business accomplishment:
I developed a public relations department for Meijer that involved, in part, providing media training for senior leadership, developing store opening promotions for the media, creating a crisis management manual for handling the media, building community involvement and partnerships in five states, and establishing Meijer as an industry expert and resource for local and national media.

What do you see as your primary area of expertise?
Building trust.  All great pr begins with building relationships, which means building trust.  We need to understand our clients’ needs, develop the strategy and deliver our services with integrity and honesty.

What do you love most about SeyferthPR (two sentences or less)?
Teamwork.  SeyferthPR pulls in the experts on a project. Everyone pitches in and works for the client’s best interest.

What is the expression you use most often at work?
There’s no need to fear…….Underdog is……no, that’s not it.  I can do that……yeah, that’s it.  I can do that.

Who is your most admired leader and why?
Ronald Reagan – the great communicator.  He had a way of delivering a message, good or bad, and getting all parties to sign in on it.

What is the company you most admire and why?
Meijer.  I have had the honor and privilege to work with Fred Meijer and his entire family.  They started off with humble means, grew a company founded on the concept of hard work, integrity and honesty.  They treated everyone with dignity and respect.  They made a profit and are just as humble today as they were when they started their business with $328.76 worth of merchandise purchased on credit.  What’s not to admire.

How do you define success?
Balancing work and play while earning the respect of my family and peers.

What is your general philosophy on life and work?
Blur the line between work and play.  If you have fun while working, it’s just not work anymore.

What are your favorite sports or recreational activities?
Baseball – Go Tigers!
College sports except wrestling; I just don’t understand that sport. And if I were any good, I would love golf.

What is your favorite movie?
Sandlot, one of the greatest baseball movies of all time.  Try watching this movie in the outfield after a Whitecaps game.  Life doesn’t get much better than that.

What is your favorite food?
Soft shell crabs from the Costas Inn in Baltimore, Maryland.  Nick and Pete know how to cook crabs.

What is your greatest vice?
Gadgets.  I have to have the latest gadget.
I also buy cereal with the best prize inside – can’t get enough of great marketing.

What is an interesting “factoid” about yourself?
I was a barrel racer for the Michigan State University Horsemanship Team.
